North Carolina Mountains, Places to Go in the Summer of 2009
There are many places to visit this summer while relaxing in one of the most beautiful places in the world, the mountains of North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway said by many to be the most beautiful highway in the United States is a recommended destination. Favorite stops along the way include, The Great Smoky Mountains, Grandfather Mountain, Pisgah Inn at 5,000 foot elevation for food, gifts, and overnight stay, and Chimney Rock near Asheville.
Asheville is a very popular destination for many reasons including the Biltmore Estates and Bele Cher festival July 24-26. Waynesville, NC known as the "Gateway to the Smokies" along with nearby Maggie Valley have long been favorites places to stay while enjoying the summer in the mountains. Waynesville is the host to Folkmoot USA, July 16-26, 2009 which is an international event drawing around 50,000 people. Maggie Valley offers numerous forms of family entertainment including Ghost Town In The Sky, Red White and Boom on July 4, 2009, Summer Arts and Crafts July 11-12, Folkmoot Under The Stars on July 15, and Unto These Hills in nearby Cherokee June 5 until August 29, 2009. North Carolina State Bluegrass Festival in Cherokee, NC is June 18-20.
Events that are popular this summer would also include Andrew Valley Music Festival, Andrew, NC on June 27, 2009. Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival August 22, 2009. This event in Cary, NC is a nationally ranked one day event. Charlotte, NC has a large Barbecue Competition and Festival, September 11-12, 2009. Charlotte Stadium is the place to be for the Fourth of July fireworks event, Red White and Boom.
