Pigeon North Carolina was one of the first six precincts formed in Haywood County and was formed shortly after the county was formed in 1809. The township which was named after the Pigeon River was originally included the land in East Fork and Cecil townships. It is known as a rural farm community. Because of the land along the Pigeon River this area has been very fertile for growing crops (corn, tomatoes, potatoes, barley, and hay).
