Maggie Valley NC has an ideal year-round climate, and is located within a beautiful mountain scenery that offers a warm Southern hospitality. This town in its early years was farming community. Maggie was born on December 21, 1890 to John and Cordelia Setzer in a small cabin in the area that today is known as Maggie Valley. Maggie's father ran a post office out of their home and on May 10, 1904 the US government selected Maggie's name for that post office. Maggie met Ira Moody Pylant two years later and after a two year courtship they were married. Ira who was a lumberman took lumber jobs around the country and they eventually settled in McAllen, Texas in the late 1920s. They raised four children including three daughters and one son. Maggie never did move back to her name sake area of Maggie Valley and her last visit was in August of 1972. Maggie died on October 24, 1979. Maggie Valley is located in Haywood County NC and is near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Pisgah National Forest and the Harmon Den Wildlife Refuge, where the Blue Ridge Parkway meets the Great Smoky Mountains.
