Crabtree North Carolina is located in the Western North Carolina county of Haywood and was one of the early precincts in this county. The name comes from Crabtree creek which runs through the community. The original area that was established was broken into smaller section creating the Iron Duff township. There are approximately thirty four square miles left in this community which is north of Clyde, NC. Crabtree community was named by some of its first settlers, possibly by early settlers like Joseph McCracken and Peter Mason. There was a huge crab apple orchard at the head of the creek. When storms came the ripe crab apples would fall into the streams so the creek got its named from its natural surroundings.
